I am professional, compassionate, empathetic, and honest.
Hello, I'm a MSW, LCSW, LCAS-A, in the great state of North Carolina with 6 years of professional work experience working as a Psychotherapist on an assertive community treatment team. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. Taking the first step to sign up for therapy can take courage and I look forward to working with anyone who is looking to take that first step.
My path to becoming a therapist is rooted in lived experience. Claiming joy and authenticity—as a sober, trans, kinky, non-monogamous, bisexual person—has taken time, intention, and community. I’ve moved through fear, people-pleasing, relapse, and grief, and found healing in therapy and holistic recovery spaces that reminded me who I was when I couldn’t see it myself.
I believe we’re all doing our best with the tools we have, and that therapy can offer space to build new ones—tools for feeling more, hiding less, and showing up in ways that feel true. My style is collaborative, steady, and grounded in care that doesn’t shy away from depth.
I earned my MSW from Columbia University in 2015 and began my career in home-based family therapy at NY Foundling. I later supported LGBTQIA+ youth at the LGBT Center and joined Dulcinea Pitagora’s group practice before founding my own. I continue to offer clinical supervision to social work interns at the LGBT Center.
After 11 years in NYC, I moved to the Hudson Valley to live among trees, rescue dogs, and small-town queer community. Outside of session, I’m often on a trail, on my yoga mat, or watching the birds from my porch.
Having been through a lot in my teenage years into adulthood, where I learned self-confidence, I have found that if I had someone to help me work through issues of stress, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and many other life factors I would have been successful sooner. I have experience in diverse cultures where I have found I learn just as much from the people around me as they learn from me. Having an open mind and listening to my clients helps me to relate and understand them and develop a treatment plan or plan of action with them that makes them feel comfortable. I have an extensive history helping individuals understand their career path, educational needs, and learning life skills. I have a passion for mental health because of the family history with depression, schizophrenia, anxiety, and substance abuse, and it drives me to want to help others. I believe it is important to empower individuals, couples, and families towards a sense of normalcy and autonomy, and developing skills to meet the goals they have for their lives. Taking a holistic approach to counseling I take into consideration the whole person and stive to build a good working relationship with each client to better understand them, helping them feel at ease at a time that may feel stressful and awkward, and helping them navigate life's challenges. In my free time I like to go to the beach, take a walk in nature, and enjoy spending time with my children and 2 dogs. I also enjoy learning, reading, and going to amusement parks when time allows.
I have devoted extra time to Impact Therapy, which provides the client with immediate support and constant feedback. We don't waste time, and client wellbeing is the focus of each session. I've also completed Level II NARM training for clients with severe/complex trauma, and I look forward to using these models to provide the best possible outcome.
Hi, I'm Margeaux Groene, a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in the Commonwealth of Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. I bring a wealth of experience and passion to my work with adolescents and adults seeking help with anxiety disorders, mood disorders, post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD), and substance use disorders. Originally from Tidewater, Virginia, I graduated from Calvin College with a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Communication and earned my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University. During my counseling internship, I focused on the effective use of telehealth treatment with the adolescent population. I am skilled in the treatment of substance use disorders, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, and co-occurring disorders such as depression and trauma. My previous positions with Synergy Counseling LLC, Caron Treatment Center’s Northern Virginia location, and most recently, New Paradigm Recovery, have given me years of experience working in partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient settings. These experiences have honed my specialization in the treatment of co-occurring substance use disorders and PTSD. My passion for working with clients suffering from unresolved trauma and clinically treatable PTSD led me to obtain training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) through the EMDRIA-approved Center for Excellence in EMDR Therapy in January 2022. Let's work together to help you achieve your goals and improve your well-being!
