Life can leave us carrying experiences that feel too heavy to hold alone. Whether you’re facing the impact of trauma, struggling in relationships, navigating grief and loss, managing anger, or working through challenges related to substance use, therapy can offer a space to pause, reflect, and begin again. The healing is not a "one-size-fits-all" process; my goal is to utilize an evidence-based intervention that you feel really "clicks" with how you view life and approach problem-solving. Common interventions I utilize include: EMDR, CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-focused Brief Therapy, and Psychodynamic Therapy.
My name is Alyssa. I am a therapist, but before that I am an imperfect person that has been on a continual healing journey herself. This therapist sees a therapist. My personal and professional experiences leave me with the knowledge that people have layers. I will sit with you in your emotions and peel back these layers with you. Feeling heard and seen in itself is healing.
My work has taken place in schools, communities, homes, and hospitals. I have worked with people requiring intensive outpatient services as well as those needing crisis services and inpatient psychiatric care. I have experience working with a diverse variety of children, adolescents, and adults. I am especially passionate about working with those struggling with self-worth, depression, anxiety, trauma, attachment, and parenting.
Maybe you are facing a transition in your life, struggling with your sense of self or personal relationships, or you’ve faced difficult situations that have lingered with you. Sometimes when we are experiencing these we can feel on edge, easily frustrated, confused, unmotivated, or inadequate. You’re ready for a change and want to be met with a balance that leads you to growth and compassion for yourself.
I am here to support you during your journey.
I have over 15 years of clinical experience in the mental health field, and with individual, family, couples, and group therapy. I truly embrace my work as a therapist in helping clients face challenges related to depression, codependency, anger, low self-esteem, addiction, anxiety, stress, relationship conflict, communication, and more.
The decision to start therapy is a courageous one. I create an open and safe environment for you to embark on your therapeutic journey. In my practice I take a strength-based approach to help you learn and grow. I am interested in exploring who you are as an individual and helping you get where you want to be. Together I hope to build a respectful and collaborative therapeutic alliance.
Growing up, I always knew I wanted to help people. I began pursuing this passion early by attending an Early College program, which allowed me to earn college credits and build a foundation for my career in social work. I went on to attend North Carolina Central University (NCCU), where I earned both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Social Work, graduating with my MSW in 2020.
Since then, I’ve taken on a variety of roles to discover my strengths and specialties within the field. My experience includes working as an Intensive In-Home therapist, serving as a therapist in an adult psychiatric hospital supporting individuals with severe mental health and addiction needs, and providing care within an IOP/PHP setting for those managing significant mental illness. I’ve also worked as a Coordinator for the Mental Health Court Program in Durham County. Ultimately, I found my home in outpatient therapy, where I’m able to work more directly and collaboratively with clients on their healing journeys.
