I earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Counseling Psychology from La Salle University, with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in North Carolina, trained in family systems, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and person-centered approaches.
My work is grounded in understanding how relationships, experiences, and thought patterns shape our emotional well-being. I strive to create a supportive, collaborative space where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered. Whether you are navigating relationship challenges, life transitions, anxiety, or personal growth, I work alongside you to build insight, strengthen coping skills, and foster meaningful, lasting change.
Nice to meet you! I'm Dr. Maimouna "May" Diop and I've been an ANCC board certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner for over 18 years. Throughout my many years of experience, I've treated all types of individuals throughout the lifespan suffering from a wide variety of mental health disorders. I've been lucky enough to train under some of the leading psychiatrists in this country and use an evidence based, holistic treatment approach with my patients.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who uses trauma-informed, person-centered approaches to support healing and growth. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from the College of Charleston before completing my Master’s in Social Work. My experience spans working with young children and their parents through Child Parent Psychotherapy, as well as supporting adults with severe and persistent mental illnesses such as Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, and Major Depression.
In my personal life, I love to read, camp, and play board games. I’m also a parent, a chronic illness warrior, and a lifelong nerd—roles that give me empathy, humor, and perspective in the work I do every day.
Over 20 years ago, God put a desire in my heart to start MANNAFULL Counseling and Consulting. I wanted to see people restored and transformed from the impact of rejection, insecurity, low self-esteem, hurt, fear, and brokenness. I knew, personally, what it felt like to be in bondage to my own thoughts and the thoughts of others. However, when I became willing to do the work, face the truth and take steps forward, I experienced freedom, joy and peace.
I believe healing happens best in spaces where you feel safe, understood, and never judged. I bring both curiosity and compassion to every session, and I genuinely love learning about the unique story that makes you you. I’m thoughtful, a little quirky in the best way, and always eager to grow... both as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and as a person. That means I stay open-minded, ask meaningful questions, and work collaboratively with you to find what truly fits your needs. You’re the expert on your life; I’m here to support you with knowledge, guidance, and encouragement.
Whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship challenges, or just feeling stuck, I want you to know that you don’t have to figure it out alone. My goal is to create a space where you feel heard, respected, and empowered to move toward the life you want.
